The Founder and Owner – Clinton Phillips, Private, Specialist Nature/Field Guide The Founder and Owner – Clinton Phillips, Private, Specialist Nature/Field Guide
Some say it is hard to find words that will do justice to Clinton’s passion for wild places and his passion for leading people into and through the wilderness. He has been directly involved in the nature guiding industry since 1993. His main focus is on leading visitors as a Filed Guide through southern Africa, specifically in Botswana, but also South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Malawi, to name a few.

Wherever he guides, be it a rustic bush camp or the quintessential Luxury Lodge, the typical feedback from guests is to say that they remember his character as being warm and vibrant, polite and fun-loving, passionate, dedicated, and eager to get out there and explore! Clinton looks for every opportunity possible to enhance his guests’ wilderness and hosted experience. Nothing is too much to ask and he is renowned for his intuition, empathy and desire to ensure his guests get more than what they expected.

Clinton has been guiding for 19 years, beginning his career in South Africa at the age of 20.

Private Guided SafarisHis dynamic guiding style and particularly wide range of skill, means that he is able to take his guests into nature not only in vehicles, but also on foot, in canoe’s, mekoro, in powered boats, and on horseback. His invaluable versatility and experience in all of these activities is what perhaps sets Clinton apart, and has earned him the deep respect not only from his guests but also his contemporaries.

Not least, Clinton is also an esteemed guide trainer and assessor, and since 1998 has dedicated large amounts of time and energy into motivating, training and issuing Nature Guiding qualifications to Motswana citizens, as well as aspiring guides from all over the world. He continues to play a pivotal role in establishing the structure of the new and improved Nature Guide qualification system in Botswana. In more recent years his focus on guide training has lead to the accreditation of three Guide Training facilities. These include the in-house guide training for Wilderness Safaris, the Private, Okavango Guiding School and recently for EcoTraining in Botswana, which is world-renown as a Pioneer and Leader in Nature and Field Guide Training for Africa.

Clinton spends roughly half of the year training, motivating and assessing learner and experienced nature guides. For the remainder of the year he leads privately designed, adventure and expedition type safaris in a number of regions, habitats and countries, for a range of visitors. The range is vast, from the Selinda Spillway canoe trail in Northern Botswana, to walking trails in the Okavango, Kalahari journeys, Mashatu/Tuli discoveries and safaris throughout the African Continent.

Clinton’s combination of passion for the wilderness and his dedication to guests’ experience is a well-known and respected name in the industry.
